Reliable Plating Works/Elite Finishing’s 3rd Annual Plating Education Month
Over 50 customers attended representing over 20 companies from OEM’s and Job Shops. The attendees were treated to lunch followed by a guided tour through the plant that detailed the metal finishing process. Those who attended went through the polishing, buffing and degreasing processes. They viewed the automated plating lines from the operators view point, seeing first hand how products go through pretreatment and cleaning, then the many plating options which include Zincating, Electroless Nickel, Sulfamate Nickel, Copper, Duplex, Bright, Satin, and Woods Nickel and Chrome plating options. They visited the lab where all chemistry is tested, verified for use and tracked on a very extensive system. Attendees then proceeded to the classroom and learned about the cost drivers involved in the metal finishing process, quote requirements, process and metal selection and much more.
Those who attended were very grateful for the experience and the RPW/Elite employees received many notes of thanks. Everyone left happy, more informed and with a memory stick which contained the presentation and several support articles that they will be able to reference in the future. If you missed it this year make sure you sign up for next year’s program, it’s free, just ask your RPW/Elite Representative to make sure they save you a spot. Five sessions were required to handle this year’s requests.
For those of you that attended this year sign up again next year as we expand our material based on our conversations with our Customers, Suppliers and Colleagues. This is just one more way that the RPW/Elite team works to provide value to its Customers.

Thanks to all who played in the 5th Annual RPW, Inc/ELITE Finishing Virtual Golf Outing!!!
We had a great time with our customers, suppliers and friends who joined us this year for our month long scramble event. It was perfect conditions at the Virtual Golf Course where the simulated game never allowed us to loose a ball. There were many great shots and some very interesting ones as well. Greg Kulis, MSF, Project Engineer for Reliable Plating Works, Inc. (RPW) has achieved the level of Master Surface Finisher.

Greg Kulis
The RPW family is very proud of Greg’s accomplishment. This certification process required that he complete six grueling levels of testing through the American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Foundation (AESF). His hard work and dedication to becoming the very best he can be now puts Greg in a very elite group of surface finishing experts. These are the very best and most knowledgeable in the surface finishing industry. He is fluent in plating all types of substrates and coatings, as well as, pre-plate preparation and post plate treatments. This certification also covers waste treatment.
Greg will be using this knowledge for new and special projects in support of RPW’s growth. He will continue to be key in the start up of new business and will be designing and developing the processes which will make these new projects a success for our Customers. He will also be improving existing processes.
Recently Greg also received his Green Belt Certification from WMEP along with three of his fellow RPW employees. He and his team members have helped RPW achieve higher quality, better lead times and avoid the increasing costs of materials and services.

New Green Belts at Reliable Plating Works and Elite Finishing LLC
Reliable Plating Works, Inc. (RPW), in their ever growing mode of Lean Principles, certifies four Quality Improvement Team Members in “Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training”. The team members all completed projects directed by Judy Sullivan of WMEP.
WMEP held the four month course on site at one of RPW’s three Milwaukee Nickel/Chrome Electroplating plants. The results of the four team members’ projects saved RPW in excess of $100,000. With the rising costs of materials, utilities, labor and government regulations, compounded by customer pressures to reduce costs, these savings were greatly needed to keep the company profitable. The projects ranged from reduction of material scrap and waste, to reduction of rejects and raw material issues.
Continued profitability in these tough economic times will require the new Green Belts to forge on with new projects. Areas which are being attacked are waste treatment costs, customer service practices, quality and production efficiencies.
RPW is proud of their four new Green Belts and congratulates them, Judy Goggins (Quality Manager), Greg Kulis (Project Engineer), Jeffrey Maliszewski (VP Quality) and Jaime Maliszewski (President).
You can contact RPW about this process and/or their capabilities to help your company reduce costs and metal finishing related problems via email jaimem@rpwinc.net or calling direct 414-397-2171 and asking for Don Schmerling or Jaime Maliszewski.

Power in Numbers - Manufacturers Cut Health Care Costs by Forming Holding Company
group of Milwaukee-area metal plating companies has found an unorthodox way to fight employee health care insurance cost increases. The owners of Artistic Plating, Chrome Tech of Wisconsin Inc., Elite Finishing LLC and Reliable Plating Works Inc. formed a holding company in late 2000, named Brilliance LLC. By grouping together, the members of Brilliance are able to purchase insurance - both health care and worker's compensation - commodities, transportation and lease equipment at rates that are usually offered to much larger firms. By standing together, the companies have limited their health insurance cost increase to just 5 percent since the group was formed more than five years ago.
They've also been able to cut waste removal costs and attract better rates from financial institutions.
